India’s polished diamond exports rise 10% in March 2013

In March 2013, India noted an increase in the value and volume of its polished diamond exports. The value of the said exports rose 10 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $2.337 billion, and its volume increased 7 percent to 4.552 million carats. ‎

Imports of polished diamonds rose 24 percent to $1.122 billion and the country’s net ‎polished exports (valued as excess of exports over imports), stood flat at $1.215 ‎billion.‎

Rough diamond imports dropped 2 percent to $1.419 million and exports slipped 13 percent to $199.77 million. The country’s net rough imports (valued as excess of ‎imports over exports) stood flat at $1.220 billion.‎

The month delivered a net diamond account (valued as total exports of polished and ‎rough less total imports) with an improvement to a deficit of $4.5 million (the same stood at a deficit of ‎‎$8.89 million in March 2012).
