The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) concluded its International Summit in Gaborone, Botswana, bringing together government officials, mining representatives, industry leaders and stakeholders from across the natural diamond pipeline.
Organized in collaboration with Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy, the summit was held under the theme “Nation-Building and the Future of Responsible Luxury”. Discussions focused on provenance, beneficiation, transparency, sustainability and value creation within the natural diamond sector.
A key development at the summit was the inclusion of Botswana and Angola as Nation Affiliate Members of the WFDB. The move is expected to strengthen cooperation between diamond-producing countries and the international diamond manufacturing and trading community.
Representing the Indian diamond industry, Mehul Shah, Vice President of Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), attended the summit and presented the Bharat Diamond Bourse postal stamp, issued by the Department of Posts, Government of India, to Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, Minister of Minerals and Energy, Republic of Botswana.
According to the statement, the minister acknowledged the gesture and reiterated Botswana’s relationship with India.
Commenting on the development, Shah said, “I am very happy that Botswana and Angola have joined the WFDB as Nation Affiliated Members, broadening the Federation’s international representation and deepening engagement between producing countries and the global manufacturing community. It was also a pleasure to meet Minister of Minerals and Energy Kenewendo and present her the Bharat Diamond Bourse Stamp.”
The summit also examined strategies to reinforce consumer confidence in natural diamonds amid changing market conditions and evolving consumer expectations.
