Christie's New York Magnificent Jewels sale churns over $40 million

At the recent Christie's New York sale of magnificent jewels the top seven lots went down the hammer for over $1 million each. The sale in total churned revenues worth $46,675,125, while its pre-sale estimate was around $40 million.

Rahul Kadakia, Head of Jewelry for Christie’s Americas & Switzerland: “Colored diamonds kicked off the first major jewelry sale of the season at Christie’s New York. The collections of Diana Dollar Knowles and The Estate of the Honorable Noreen Stonor Drexel performed very well with some of the finest examples of vintage David Webb jewels. Eva Perón’s Argentine Flag Brooch was offered for the second time at Christie’s, after fifteen years, and was acquired by an Argentinean collector for $461,000. We look forward to our week of sales at Christie’s Geneva where we will offer The Orange – the Largest Fancy Vivid Orange Diamond in the World.”

The New York sale offered three loose stones. The top lot was an 8.77-carat, VVS1, rectangular‐cut fancy intense pink diamond ring selling for $6,325,000, while another was a 3.81-carat, VS1, fancy vivid blue, rectangular-cut diamond ring selling $3,973,000. The third was a 5.13-carat, square-cut fancy vivid yellow diamond bought for $269,000.

The sale also saw top lots like a rectangular-cut, 25.30-carat D, VVS1 diamond, with a tapered baguette-cut diamond on either side and set in platinum, was bought for $3,133,000. The lots sold also included an 18.28-carat, D, VVS2, cushion-cut diamond ring sold for $2,045,000, a 15.88-carat cushion-cut Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring bought for $1,805,000 and a 10.74-carat, D, internally flawless, cut-cornered rectangular-cut diamond ring selling for $1,385,000. A 17.00-carat, F, VS1, cut-cornered rectangular-cut diamond ring sold for $1,265,000.
