Hari Krishna Exports (HKE), recipient of ISO 9001:2008 certification, currently has a talent pool of 4750 plus personnel working in seven state-of the-art diamond manufacturing units producing 40,000 carats per month.

Set up in 1992, Hari Krishna Export Pvt.Ltd. processes round, brilliant, princess and marquise diamonds from 0.01 carats to 10.00 carats range. A small seed planted by SavjiDholakiain Surat now has a worldwide presence. With offices in Mumbai, Surat, New York, Antwerp, Shanghai and Hong Kong, the roots of this large diamond tree are fast spreading. The brand has already been expanding its business across political boundaries and reaching out to important global markets. Reveling the success and sharing the secret that drives the company towards excellence, GhanshyamDholakia, Director, HariKrisna Exports says, “We at Hari Krishna Exports never cease to innovate and are in constant endevour to better our services and products offered.”

While throwing light on the exquisite history of the company that has grown to be exemplary, Dholakiashares, “In a span of twenty years, the company has travelled from being an entrepreneurial outfit of four brothers to a group with interests in domestic and international business arenas. The vertical integration process transformed the company from diamond polishers into one of the biggest organisation who process, manufacture and market polished diamonds and jewellery in the domestic and international markets with affiliates in New York, Hong Kong and Antwerp and Dubai.”

Talking about the recent expansions and expansion plans, he says, “In the last few years we expanded our distribution network by launching offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai. We also have our marketing alliances in New York and Antwerp. We are now looking into market research of a few different markets to evaluate further growth. We will be launching our Dubai office very shortly.”

The company has been selected as ‘Sight Holder’ of Diamond Trading Company (DTC), which ensures regular supply of rough diamonds of quality standards. Besides, company is also on the selective list of recipient of rough diamonds from rough manufacturing giants like Al Rosa of Russia, BHP Billiton of Canada, Rio Tinto of Australia and Belgium.

“We don not consider our first sale with our new clients as a sale. Only if the client is repeated and we have our second sale we consider it as a sale. This makes our clients more like our family over the repeated business transactions. This is the unique selling pint of our company,” states Dholakia. This is one of the main reasons behind the group’s annual turnover of US$359 million in the year of 2012. This is also the reason behind them being bestowed upon many honourableaccolodes and awards. Hari Krishna Exports has won the ‘Recipient of Excellence’ Award in export of cut and polished diamonds from Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council for ten consecutive years. It is noteworthy to mention that they are the only organisation in the nation to achieve this feat. They are also the certified member of Responsible Jewellery Council.

The core team of Hari Krishna Export consists of SavjiDholakia, TulsiDholakia, HimmatDholakia and GhanshyamDholakia. In addition to these four brothers there are also three more directors of the company who are NareshLungariya, Bharat Narola and HasmukhDholakia. GhanshyamDholakia looks over the entire operations of overseas offices of HKE and marketing. SavjiDhlokia and his sons are responsible for sourcing of rough whereas Tulsibhai and Himmatbhai take care of the manufacturing. With such a big and capable family, the operations at the Hari Krishna Exports are efficiently segregated in turn adding to the productivity of the company.

While talking about the company’s employees, GhanshyamDholakia has a shine in his eyes, proving the fact that he considers them an essential part of the company. “Many of the employees have been a part of the HKE family since its inception. Employees are regarded as a highly valuable asset at the HKE. Free medical check ups, medical expenses reimbursement, annual trips and picnics, inspirational and motivational programmes are a part of HKE employee policy. Last year we planned a Haridwar trip for our employees and their parents which was appreciated by our team,”smiles GhanshyamDholakia.

India today has one of the highest consumption of diamond jewelleryespecially in the daily wear segment. Thus, I thought if we have the best quality of diamonds in our home, a team who is excited to work like it were their family business and the demand for the product which showing no sign of decreasing, why not launch a diamond jewellery brand.” Turning just a mere thought into a prosperous high-yielding business needed a lot of brain-storming, planning and execution but in 2005, the brand Kisna was launched which today is a household name. Kisna is available in more than 5000 outlets in India and has over 400 distributors. The brand, which is easily available in India, is now in the plans to be launched in international markets starting with the neighbouring countries then moving onto the U.S. and UK. There is no doubt that this plan will add more feathers in HKE’s hat as Kisna brand attracts Indian’s all over the world.

In addition to launching international offices and expanding the business across the globe, the company also invests a lot of resources in all the major trade fairs in terms of booth appearance and manpower. The HKE team participates in six to seven shows on an international level mainly in Turkey BASEL, Dubai and Las Vegas. GhanshyamDholakiain spite of his extremely busy schedule ensures that he personally attends most of the shows. Irrespective of the place and the market conditions, the company brings their best for every show and fairs.

When asked which point can he highlight as the changing point of the company, he shares, “A change is an ongoing process. We believe in evolving to keep up with the changing preferences of the clients. Our new office in the Capital building of Bandra-Kurla Complex is a fine example of that. We now present comfort and space to our clients in this spacious new office. This new office is a definitely another feather in our cap.” Taking one look at the well-appointed office of HKE can vouch his statement. When quizzed about the strategies to beat the competition in the industry, Dholakia had a very straightforward answer. “We do not believe in competition. As we are not located exactly in the Bharat Diamond Bourse, we are away from all competition. We are away but not too away from the bourse and our work and reach into the market speaks for itself.”

The entire diamond industry has high hopes pinned onto the year 2013 to bring much better market conditions. GhanshyamDholakia is of the same opinion and shares, “The year 2013 is one of the best times in the industry. It will not only bring in good business and market conditions but also open new avenues for the industry to prosper.”
