The platform was unveiled during the Kimberley Process Intersessional Meeting held at DMCC’s Uptown Tower in Dubai, as part of the country’s 2024 chairmanship of the UN-mandated initiative.

Verifico aims to digitise the Kimberley Process certification system, helping ensure that only conflict-free diamonds enter the legitimate market. The platform will be available to all Kimberley Process (KP) participants and forms a central part of the UAE’s broader strategy to modernise and streamline the diamond trade through digital solutions.

During the event, it was revealed that Dubai has handled more than 1.06 billion carats of combined rough and polished diamonds over the past five years. In 2024 alone, the emirate facilitated the trade of nearly 179 million carats, reinforcing its position as one of the world’s top diamond trade hubs.

The UAE also proposed convening a ministerial-level meeting of KP participants to address the most pressing challenges facing the global diamond trade. The aim is to bring together producing, trading, and consumer nations to align efforts on policy, regulation, and best practices.

The Kimberley Process, established by the United Nations in 2003, includes 85 participating countries working together to prevent the flow of conflict diamonds. The UAE, which first chaired the KP in 2016, is the only Arab nation to have held this role. It resumed the chairmanship in 2024 and will continue as custodian chair through 2025 under the theme “Year of Best Practice,” focusing on reinforcing governance standards and transparency across the industry.
