The second edition of TREASURES, an international colloquium focused on royal and historic jewellery, will take place on November 13-14, 2026, at the Royal Treasure Museum, Palácio Nacional da Ajuda, in Lisbon, Portugal.
Held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Portugal, the event will centre on the theme “Crowns and Tiaras.” The two-day programme will include presentations by researchers and panel discussions featuring gem and jewellery experts from museums, collections and institutes worldwide.
The colloquium will examine royal and imperial crowns, diamond tiaras, and gem-set hat and hair jewellery. Organizers said the event will also commemorate the bicentenary of the death of Portugal’s King Dom João VI of the Braganza Dynasty.
As part of the programme, the Royal Crown created in Brazil for Dom João VI’s accession to the throne of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves in 1818 will be specially presented at the museum. H.H. the Lady Infanta D. Maria Francisca de Bragança, Duchess of Coimbra, of the Portuguese Royal House of Bragança, is also expected to attend.
“The Portuguese Crown Jewels and other treasures of the Royal House have been on public display at the state-of-the-art Royal Treasure Museum, at the Ajuda National Palace, in Lisbon, since June 2022,” said Rui Galopim de Carvalho, TREASURES Master of Ceremonies and Programme Chair.
“The unique historical, artistic, gemmological, and visual wealth of these collections set up the perfect scenario to bring together speakers of the highest international caliber to talk about treasures that belong, or once belonged, to ruling sovereigns and their families from various geographies across the globe,” he added.
Nuno Vale, Executive Director of the Royal Treasure Museum, noted that the inaugural TREASURES colloquium in 2024 was “significantly over-subscribed” and urged interested participants to register early.
Participants will receive exclusive access to the museum’s Portuguese Royal collections. Cultural and jewellery-related tours before and after the colloquium will also be available. The event will be conducted in English.
