Edward Asscher, current Vice Chair of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), has announced his intention to run for another term. The announcement was made on April 17, 2026, in a letter addressed to RJC members.
In his communication, Asscher highlighted the increasing commercial challenges facing the diamond, gem, and jewellery industry. He emphasized the need to strengthen industry reputation through improved transparency and communication driven by the RJC.
“After serving four years as Vice Chair, I continue to argue that we need to improve the reputation of our industries in the widest sense. We do this with transparency and communication by the RJC. Under the enthusiastic leadership of Purvi Shah we must continue our efforts to streamline the organization, make our governance more transparent, and our standards more easily understood and implemented.”
Asscher reiterated his long-standing focus on inclusivity within the industry, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He stated that SMEs form the majority of the global trade and RJC membership, requiring equitable and efficient support.
“Since I began my public service to the industry many years ago, my motto has always been: ‘Leave no one behind.’ As such, my greatest concern is the small and medium-sized companies (SMEs).”
Asscher previously served as Chairman of the World Diamond Council. After 50 years leading Royal Asscher Diamonds, he retired in 2020 and currently serves as non-executive Chairman.
