Christie’s Important Jewels sale in London attracts enthusiastic buying

Christie’s Important Jewels sale in London, realised $13,597,721. The top lot was a rare enamel and diamond snake wristwatch, by Bulgari, circa 1965 which achieved a world record price for a Bulgari snake watch at auction $ 1,107, 038, more than double its pre-sale estimate as per Christie’s.

Keith Penton, Head of London Jewellery Department, commented: “The ‘Important Jewels’ sale in London demonstrated that once again the appetite for good quality period and signed jewels is unabated, with competitive bidding from every continent. The top lot was a rare enamel and diamond snake watch by Bulgari from the mid-1960s which achieved more than double its pre-sale estimate to realise £662,500. The traditional Cartier section was again sold 100% by lot achieving a total of £946,750. We look forward to the sale of Important Jewels at Christie’s New York on Tuesday, 10th June.”

Other important jewels included a Fancy brown- yellow diamond of 18.27 cts, VVS1 clarity, and diamond bracelet, by Bulgari, followed by a pear shaped D colour, IF clarity 5.02 cts, diamond ring, an early 20th century cushion shaped 4.60 cts Kashmir sapphire and diamond bar brooch, a marquise-cut 8.50 cts H colour, VS2 clarity diamond ring, an early 20th century rectangular-cut, 6.36 cts, E colour, VS1 clarity diamond ring, a pair of pear shape, 6.30 & 6.96 cts, I colour, VS1 clarity diamond ear pendants, a rectangular-cut, 16.22 cts sapphire and diamond necklace, by Kern, no heat, a pear shaped 18.22 cts diamond ring, and a brilliant-cut 13.86 cts diamond ring.
