A diamond necklace by jewellery designer Nirav Modi will be part of the offerings at Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong in April this year. The piece is said to have a base price of around Rs 50 crore, reports say.

The piece is made with 17 high-quality diamonds or 85 carats, sourced over two years, mostly from Russia. A 10-carat diamond is the largest in this arrangement, while the smallest is of 2 carats. For the designer, the piece commands a high price for its craftsmanship and design and quality of the stones, reports say.

Modi has in the past had around 20 of his creations featured at Sotheby’s and Christie’s auctions. He has also been the first Indian jeweller to feature alongside international designers, on the cover of Christie's Hong Kong auction catalogue, reports say.
