Japan’s polished diamond imports drop 15% in May

In May, polished diamond imports into Japan dropped 15 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $64.5 million, and the said imports rose in volume by 31 percent ‎to 180,554 carats, reports add. The average price of the diamonds slid 35 percent to $357 per ‎carat.

Region-wise, the imports rose more or less from all major countries: from India it rose 22 percent to $29.9 million, from Belgium it was up 15 percent to $12.9 million, from Israel it rose 7 percent to $7 million and from United States it rose 21 percent to $ 2.1 million. The said imports from Hong Kong dropped 33 percent, reports add.
