IIGJ conducts workshop on Gold Jewellery Appraisal Techniques

Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ) organized a workshop on Gold Jewellery Appraisal Techniques, to train officers of India’s Central Bank. The 17 officers who attended, were made more aware on how to distinguish false gold from real gold, a key decision they need to take when giving loans against gold.

The programme included practical tests to identify the different karatages of gold jewellery, discussions on assaying techniques and their comparison with practical demonstrations, practical demonstrations on combinations of testing gold by the acid and touchstone method and the specific gravity of testing gold. An objective exam assessed individual performance at the conclusion of the program and the attendees were given certificates.

The workshop was held on 12th September 2012, at Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery, Mumbai. It is one of IIGJ’s initiatives to support the industry through Professional Competence.
