Leading Indian gemologist Dr. Mrs. Jayshree Panjikar was felicitated by the Government of Maharashtra, Ministry of Cultural Affair recognised for her outstanding achievements in her field. The award was in honour of women excelling in their field and joining Dr. Mrs. Jayshree Panjikar five other ladies in different professions were also felicitated. The felicitation event entitled “Shakti Mahotsav” was held on 21st March, 2012 in Mumbai, and hosted Mr. Sanjay Devthale, Minister for Cultural Affairs as Chief Guest and Guests of Honor - Mrs. Satvasheela Prithviraj Chavan and Mr. Faujiya Khan Miniter of State for cultural affairs.

The five other women being felicitated include Mrs. Neela Satyanarayan first lady Election Commissioner, Dr. Mrs. Vasudha Apte first lady expert in Forensic Medicine, Mrs. Shalaka Beke, first lady expert in Scuba Diving, Dr. Mrs. Devyani Borul first lady doctor to stay on South Pole and Dr. Mrs. Vinaya Jangaley first lady veterinary doctor for wild animals.

In the vein that the event was themed on the empowerment of women, Mr. Sanjay Devthale shared his views on the various efforts being undertaken by government in this area. Mrs. Satvasheela Prithviraj Chavan, wife of the present Chief Minister of Maharashtra, also shared views on the same.
