553-carat, D, type II diamond discovered at Letšeng mine

The Letšeng mine in Lesotho has delivered another historic find - a 553-carat, D, type II diamond which was discovered by Gem Diamonds Ltd. The mining company has not named the diamond as yet but considers it to be ‘exceptional and historic in size’, reports say.

This is the fourth such historic fid from the Letšeng mine and Gem Diamonds ranks this stone as the largest white diamond found so far in the world.

The diamond is undergoing analysis in Antwerp.
