Thai gem and jewellery exports up 5.7% in H1 of 2011

Country seeks to expand in other countries beyond US

Exports by the Thai gem and jewellery were up 5.7 percent over H1 of 2010, valuing US$6.55 billion. The country’s exports to the US rose 30 percent to $2.9 billion baht, which has been the highest increase in US for Thailand’s gem and jewellery industry, since the economic recession in 2008. But following the recent report of concerns of the US economy and that of the European debt crisis, the Thai gems and jewellery industry is now looking at expanding its reach ion other countries like china, India and latin America. EU may affect Thai exports.
