A natural fancy pink diamond weighing 6.17 carats realized $2,187,500 at Heritage Auctions’ Holiday Fine Jewelry Signature® Auction, held on December 3 in Dallas, Texas. The sale closed with a total value of $8,405,540.
The oval-shaped diamond, known as The Angelina, was the highest-priced jewellery item ever sold by Heritage Auctions. The stone came from the Estate of Willa Dean Lyon and was named after her granddaughter.
According to Heritage, natural pink diamonds remain among the rarest gemstones, accounting for less than 0.01% of diamonds mined annually. Stones exceeding five carats with saturated colour are especially scarce, following the 2020 closure of the Argyle mine in Western Australia.
Jill Burgum, Executive Director of Fine Jewelry at Heritage Auctions, said the result reflected sustained demand for large, high-quality coloured diamonds in the current market.
Another top-performing lot was a pair of Van Cleef & Arpels natural pearl and diamond convertible earrings, which sold for $600,000. The platinum-set earrings feature approximately 6.00 carats of diamonds and two pearl drops weighing 16.36 and 17.88 carats. They far exceeded their pre-auction estimate of $30,000 after GIA confirmed the pearls as natural.
Other six-figure results included a diamond and platinum ring with a 10.89-carat centre stone at $325,000, and five additional diamond rings priced between $100,000 and $175,000. A Tiffany & Co. tourmaline and diamond necklace sold for $131,250.
Designer jewellery highlights included Van Cleef & Arpels gold cuffs at $68,750 and a David Webb diamond necklace at $62,500.
