The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Middle East recently completed a gem identification and coloured stone grading lab classes in Bahrain, with 16 students completing the gem identification classes, and 15 completing the coloured stone grading course. All received an official letter of completion. The courses concluded in February 2010.

With the overwhelming response at the Bahrain classes, the lab intends to add more classes in the region. It also wants to expand its courses to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Presently, the lab offers a full fledged schedule of lab classes in Dubai.
