US online jewellery sales dips by 22%

Online sales in the US have shown unexpected rise in the period December 1, 2008 to December 5, 2008. The economic slowdown was expected to eat into the online sales’ pie, instead it has shown a 22 percent in increase during the period, backed by strong promotions and heavy discounts.

Although in comparison to the 2007 sales, jewellery and watches sales declined by 22 percent. An industry website notes that sales between the said period amounted to $3.74 billion, a hike by 9 percent, as compared to last year. Sales in November, as reported by the website were slow and amounted to the sales between November to December 5 being unchanged at $14.92 billion.
