In the wake of the lockdown announced across the nation by the Central government and thereafter by respective state governments, gems and jewellery industry was totally closed.

Government of Maharashtra relaxes the lockdown marginally. As per the order issued by the Government of Maharashtra on May 11, however, under the title: “Amendment to Revised Guidelines on the Lockdown measures for containment of Covid-19 in State” -- In areas of Municipal Corporation of Mumbai Metropolitan region (MMR), activities related to diamonds and gems and jewellery will be permitted only for fulfilling export commitment with access control allowed to 10 per cent of workforce capacity. Travel will be permitted with point to point bus transport. No person from the containment zone will be allowed to work in these establishments.

Further, all norms of social distancing, and precautions as prescribed will be followed. A medical doctor will be available on site to ensure that all persons suffering from influenza like illness (ILI) are identified and segregated and steps will have to be taken as per the health protocol.
