ALROSA announced that at 10.20 am (local time) on 25th August, the water volume in the open pit mine was 32,000 cubic meters. At 11.10 am, the water level in the mine shaft was at mark –223.83.

The works related to the controlled discharge of water from the open pit mine by focused explosions continue in accordance with the minutes of the meeting held by the operational and technical emergency response center.

A pumping complex is ready-to-run on level –210 to protect the level from flooding. The pumps will be started when the water in the mine shaft reaches –222 meters. The total capacity of the pumps is at least twice higher than the incoming water volume.

While there is still a danger of an uncontrolled immediate inrush of water into the mine shaft, rescue works underground are forbidden.
