Gold production at South Africa appears to be facing a constant dip. It fell by 5.2% in July 2007, as compared to July 2006. During the quarter ended July 2007, production dipped by 4.1% in volume, in comparison to the same quarter of 2006, as stated by Statistics South Africa. In contrast, while the sale of gold dipped by 8.1% to value $461 million (R3.3 billion) in June 2007, on a year-on-year basis, the sales during the quarter ended June 2007 hiked by 17.4%.
