Kalyan Jewellers gears up for retail expansion

Intends to have a footprint of 100 stores by the end of the current fiscal

Leading jewellery entity Kalyan Jewellers is planning to expand its retail footprint by another 22 stores in the current fiscal, reports say. It recently announced a new showroom in Chennai which would take its store count to 78. The intent is to have 100 stores by the end of the current fiscal.

This venture would entail an investment of around Rs 800 crore, to be sourced internally.

At present there are 65 Kalyan Jewellers exclusive showrooms in India and 12 in West Asia. The expansion of its retail footprint will cover six outlets in Qatar, consolidating the existing stores in the NCR, Maharashtra and Kerala to open stores in Gurgaon, Noida, Pune, Mumbai and Kodunagallor, as per reports.

The launch of the Chennai showroom is a big event in the calendar of the company, as it would be the largest investment of the company in a single store, reports add. The 40,000 sq ft showroom entailed an investment of around Rs 200 crore.

Warburg Pincus had acquired a mioroty stake worth Rs 1,200 crore in the company, recently.
