In 2014, Antwerp’s polished diamond exports surged in value terms by 4 percent on y-o-y basis to US$ 14.4 billion, but dipped 5 percent in volume terms to 6.4 million carats, reports say. Rough diamond exports rose 7 percent on y-o-y basis to US$ 15.7 billion and imports rose 13 percent to US$ 14.9 billion. The volume of rough diamond exports rose 7.5 percent to 114.5 million carats, while imports rose 10 percent to 99.9 million carats, as per reports.

India was the highest importer of rough diamonds in volume terms and the highest exporter of polished diamonds in the said year, reports say.

The year culminated with a total of 227.2 million carats of rough and polished diamonds in trade worth US$ 58.8 billion, which exceeded the 2012 record of US$ 56.5 billion, reports say.
