The Surat facility will be headed by Kalpesh Desai and will issue Diamond Reports, Coloured Gemstone Reports and Jewellery Reports. Services will be available to manufacturers, wholesalers, traders, retailers, jewellery brands, designers, industry professionals and consumers.
The laboratory is part of ICA GemLab’s strategy to establish direct access to analytical services in key sourcing and trading markets. The organisation said the Surat location will bring testing closer to the manufacturing and trading stages of the jewellery supply chain.
Amira Hatta, Managing Director, ICA GemLab Global, said India is an important market for the international gems and jewellery industry and that the Surat laboratory would provide customers with access to its analytical capabilities closer to their operations.
Desai said Surat’s role in global diamond processing made it a strategic location for the laboratory, with the facility intended to provide documented gemmological information and analysis to support trade and consumer decision-making.
The Surat laboratory will operate as part of ICA GemLab’s international network, which includes its headquarters in Bangkok and facilities in Dubai and Hong Kong. The organisation is affiliated with the International Colored Gemstone Association.
