African high jewellery house AKANO has introduced its latest collection, titled ‘Omenala’, during Paris Fashion Week, presenting the new line at The Peninsula Paris on 4 March 2026.

The collection draws inspiration from Igbo cultural heritage, with the word “Omenala” translating to “heritage” in the Igbo language. Through the collection, the brand interprets traditional symbolism and cosmological references from West African culture into contemporary high jewellery designs.

Founded by designer Akunna Nwala-Akano, AKANO positions its work at the intersection of African cultural storytelling and haute joaillerie craftsmanship. The ‘Omenala’ collection reflects this approach, with each piece designed to reinterpret ancestral narratives through sculptural forms and intricate gemstone settings.

The pieces incorporate high-carat diamonds alongside coloured gemstones, set within bold, architectural designs intended to evoke ceremonial jewellery traditions while maintaining a modern aesthetic. The presentation in Paris was held as a private showcase attended by fashion editors, collectors and industry guests during the fashion week calendar.

With ‘Omenala’, the brand continues its focus on translating African cultural motifs into high jewellery formats for an international audience. The launch also reflects the growing presence of African designers within the global luxury and high jewellery landscape, particularly through showcases aligned with major fashion events such as Paris Fashion Week.
