The dispute amongst the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the de Beers management, over increase in salaries, still remains unsettled, with the NUM now considering a strike at De Beers South African mines.

The NUM was seeking an 11% increase in salaries, while the diamond conglomerate offered only 7%, at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA). The CCMA issued a non-resolution certificate for the same.
According to national spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka, the union would decide on its stand at Wednesdays shop steward council meeting.
