International Gemological Institute (IGI) has launched its first testing laboratory and education institute at M.I. Road in Jaipur, Rajasthan. With this addition, IGI not only intends to expand its client service portfolio and reach, but also promote its foremost objective of raising awareness of the importance of gem and jewellery certification.

Jaipur is known for being the most crucial centers internationally for cutting and polishing diamonds and coloured gemstones, including precious and semi-precious stones. Known as home of the arts, the state of Rajasthan is reputed as India’s highest exporter of artistically cut stones – in fact, this hand-carving technique is one of the most unique in the industry and believed to be everlasting in nature.

Earlier, Jaipur-area manufacturers and retailers were serviced through IGI’s New Delhi headquarters. The new independent center will serve clients from Rajasthan and North India. Besides, IGI’s full scope of grading reports, IGI’s respected and comprehensive coloured stone reports will be a key offering as Jaipur is known for the manufacturing of precious and semi-precious stones. Similarly, the IGI School of Gemology will be pivotal in providing high-quality education to area manufacturers, retailers and jewellery enthusiasts.

With the Jaipur lab, now IGI has nine labs spread across India. IGI has labs in Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Surat, Ahmedabad, Thrissur and Chennai.

Commenting on the launch, IGI India Managing Director Tehmasp Printer said: “We are delighted to expand into an area that holds such a strong, historic connection with the industry. Jaipur has always been a major market for us, which we have previously served through our New Delhi branch. In recent years, we have contemplated a venture into Jaipur and are pleased it has finally happened.” Printer continued, “We hope the city will welcome us with open arms, and in turn, IGI promises to uphold and maintain our quality standards and quest for perfection.”
