Indian gem dealers were among the seriously injured in a bomb blast in a restaurant late Monday in the northern Tanzanian town of Arusha, says a report.

The attack took place at an Indian restaurant Vama popular with foreigners and affluent Tanzanians in the centre of town. The Indian gem dealers who got injured included Prateek Jhaveri and two staff members, Mahesh Gupta and his family, Rajiv Khandelwal and his family and Deepak Gupta who were having dinner there. Arusha being an important town for gem sourcing business these gem dealers were there on a business.

It was reportedly an improvised explosive device thrown through a window. So far, no one has claimed responsibility of the blast, but two people have been arrested following the attack, the report further added.

Arusha is one of the important towns for Tanzania’s tourist industry, a major source of foreign currency for the eastern African country.
