A 153-carat diamond was recently discovered in Sierra Leone's eastern district of Kono, reports say. This discovery makes it the largest since last year’s discovery of a 125-carat diamond also found in Kono, reports add.

The 153-carat diamond is estimated to be worth around $6.2 million, and is being considered as one of the ‘finest in Sierra Leone’ since the past decade by the state-run National Minerals Agency, reports say. The diamond is graded D+ in color and ‘could only be matched or surpassed by fancy diamonds such as blue or pink in terms of price’ as per the agency, reports add. The diamond is believed by the agency to be a cleavage in terms of shape and the clarity is of very high quality’, reports say.
