GIA to issue revised diamond certificate

diamond world news service

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA), one of the leading gemological laboratories in the world, announced that in 2014, it would be issuing reports in a revised format. The new reports for rough and polished diamonds will be the same size as the traditional reports and will weigh less, reducing shipping and storage costs and consuming fewer materials and will include new enhanced security features.

Any GIA reports that were issued in the third or fourth quarters of 2013 can be re-issued in the new format if asked for and a nominal fee will be taken for re-issuing of the reports. The GIA website shall explain the method by which report re-issues may be acquired.

The rollout of the new reports was initially scheduled to take place in February 2013, but it was postponed in order to resolve a last minute security concern.
