A one day ‘Gold Appraisal’ training programme was conducted for the operational staff of Axis Bank’s Pune and Nasik branches. The training was held at the Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ), Mumbai, on August 10, 2013.

The training enabled the participants to become more aware in identifying the difference between real and fake gold, which is crucial for them in their business of giving loans against gold jewellery.

To impart the knowledge, various practical tests were carried out to identify the different karatages of gold jewellery. Different assaying techniques and their comparison were discussed with practical demonstration in some cases. All possible combinations of testing gold by the acid and touchstone method were carried out by the participants. Demonstration of the specific gravity method was also conducted.

An objective exam was conducted at the conclusion of the course, to help asses individual performances, and certificates were also issued.
