U.S. polished diamond imports drop 3.6% in June

In June 2013, polished diamond imports into the U.S. dropped 3.6 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $1.562 billion, reports say. The average price also slipped, by 4.4 percent to $1,661 per carat. Exports of polished diamonds jumped 12.6 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $2.555 billion, reports say. Reports also suggest that the exports touched a record high.

The month recorded a polished import deficit of $993 million (the same was in a deficit of $612 million in June 2012), reports say.

Rough diamond imports dropped 62.3 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $20 million. Rough diamond exports dropped 3.6 percent to $27 million. The country’s import deficit was worth $7 million (the same was in a surplus of $26 million in June 2012).

The country’s net diamond account in the said month, (valued as net imports of polished and rough diamonds) stood in a deficit of $1 billion (the same was in a deficit of $586 million in June 2012).
