The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has undertaken a delegation visit to Australia to build on the growth in India’s jewellery exports following implementation of the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA).
Australia has emerged as a growing destination for Indian gem and jewellery exporters. India’s gem and jewellery exports to Australia increased nearly 36% to $250.15 million during April-November 2025, compared with $184.22 million during the corresponding period a year earlier.
The growth has been supported by tariff advantages under ECTA. GJEPC has identified the agreement as an important factor in improving market access and strengthening India’s competitiveness in Australia.
The council’s Australia-focused engagement comes as Indian exporters diversify beyond traditional markets. During April-November 2025, exports to the US declined 43.8%, while shipments to Australia, the UAE, Hong Kong and France recorded growth.
GJEPC has said that the India-Australia trade agreement is encouraging international buyers to increase orders from Indian manufacturers. K. Srinivasan, Convener–Gold Panel, GJEPC, said the implementation of ECTA had eliminated import duties and “significantly” strengthened India’s global competitiveness.
The council’s broader strategy is focused on market diversification, with Australia forming part of India’s expanding Asia-Pacific export network. For Indian manufacturers, the market presents opportunities across gold jewellery, studded jewellery and silver jewellery.
