Sales at Birks & Mayors rise 12% in fiscal 2012

Retailer closes the year with net income of $219,000

Fiscal year 2012 closed on March 31, 2012 for Birks & Mayors Inc. with an increase in net sales and comparable store sales across its retail presence.

Comparable stores sales across its global presence were up 5 percent. Overall sales in the year increased 12 percent to $302.3 million, from $270.9 million in the previous year. The retailer’s net income stood at $219,000, from a net loss of $7.7 million in the previous fiscal.

The comparable store sales in U.S. increased 6 percent and in Canada it increased 4 percent in fiscal 2012. The retailer attributes the rise in the sales to an increase in the sales and its marketing strategies which helped propel sales and an improvement in the economic environment in the U.S. and Canada.
