Amazon.com’s product sales up 29% in Q1 of 2012

Sales of its North American operations rose 36%

Online retailer Amazon.com noted that the quarter ending March 31, 2012 was favourable for its sales. Product sales in the three months rose 29 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $11.25 billion.

The retailer’s consolidated sales were up 34 percent to $13.19 billion. Its operating expenses also surged, by 36 percent to $13 billion. Its North American region sales rose 36 percent to $7.43 billion and its international sales were up 31 percent to $5.76 billion.

The three months did not deliver robust figures for net earnings, which dropped by 35 percent to $130 million.
