Tanishq launches limited gold coin collection

Tanishq, the jewellery retail arm of the Tata Group has launched a limited collection of engraved gold coins. The collection is dedicated to the iconic Carnatic singer and a recipient of Bharat Ratna, SMT. M.S. Subbulakshmi. The collection was unveiled in Chennai, by acclaimed Carnatic classical vocalists Dr. M Balamuralikrishna and Sudha Ragunathan.

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. CK Venkataraman, COO, Tanishq said, “M.S.Subbulakshmi epitomizes the rich cultural heritage of our country. Carnatic classical music forms an integral part of our tradition. This initiative from Tanishq is a tribute to this art form; it pays tribute to the evergreen maestro and the phenomenal contribution she has made to the world of music.”

The coins vary in weights from 2gms, 4gms and 8gms. The engraving is that of the image of M.S.Subbulakshmi, and buyers of the coins also get a book of memoirs that captures significant landmarks of the legend’s life and gives readers an insight into her musical journey.

Tanishq is retailing the coins at select showrooms in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Amongst the various feats established by M.S. Subbulakshmi, she was the first musician to be awarded the Bharat Ratna and the only Indian musician to have performed at the United Nations. She was known as much for the humanitarian work as for Carnatic music. Tanishq is making a contribution towards her favored causes of Cancer and diabetes research – The Cancer Institute and the TAG-VHS Diabetes Research Centre, Chennai.
