BASELWORLD 2011 opens with high expectations

The World Watch and Jewellery Show, BASELWORLD 2011, has unfolded today, with Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter opening the show. The opening ceremony this year will be highlighted with the attendance of India’s Minister for Commerce and Industry, Anand Sharma, Christoph Brutschin (Councillor of the Canton of Basel-Stadt), Jacques J. Duchêne (President of the Exhibitors’ Committee), René Kamm (CEO of MCH Group) and further guests. The event is slated between March, 24-31, 2011.

The show organizers MCH Swiss Exhibition (Basel) Ltd. expect the event to reflect the recovery in the economy and the luxury goods sector as is witnessed since last year. The venue, Exhibition Center Basel (Messe Basel), is spread over 160,000 m2 and has 1892 exhibitors from the watch and jewellery sector, representing a total of 45 countries, showcasing their latest models and collections. During the show, around 100,000 professional visitors are expected in Basel.
