Rio Tinto launches Argyle diamonds at World Expo in Shanghai

Rio Tinto officially launched its diamonds sourced from the Argyle diamond mine in Western Australia, into the Chinese market, at the Australian pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai. The mining company has collaborated with leading Chinese diamond jewellery retailer - Chow Tai Fook, to market its Argyle diamonds in the Chinese market.

The launch was characterized with a contemporary fashion jewelry collection and a unique diamond encrusted kookaburra, designed by Chow Tai Fook. The kookaburra is creatively inspired by the colours of Australia and is named ‘Peng Peng’. Its is 20 cm in height and holds around 20,000 diamonds. This piece symbolizes the partnership between the two entities and is a tribute to the Shanghai World Expo. It will tour across Chow Tai Fook stores in main Chinese cities. There are over 55 pieces in the jewellery collection.
