The death of a worker at the Koffiefontein mine in South Africa, has led to Petra Diamonds calling for a temporary suspension of operations at the mine. So far, an investigation into the death is being carried out by the mine management together with South Africa's Department of Mineral Resources. According to the company, the accident was equipment related and did not occur due to mining operations, reports say. The mine is likely to re-open soon, and the company believes its production targets would not be hampered with the present suspension.

The company extended its condolences to the worker’s family and noted that this is the first such incident at a Petra Diamonds mining operation since 2004, reports say.
