Rio Tinto's diamond output dips by 54% in Q3

Diamond output at Rio Tinto, dipped by 54 percent to 2.79 million carats in the third quarter, reports say. However, its diamond production at its mines doubled in the third quarter, over production in the second quarter.

At its Argyle mine, the diamond output dipped by 51 percent to 2.27 million carats. Output at its Diavik mine decreased by 64 percent to 497,000 carats and at its Murowa Diamonds in Zimbabwe, diamond output fell by 72 percent to 21,000 carats.

During the nine months ending September 30, the mining company saw a 31 percent fall in diamond output to 9.58 million carats.
