Thailand seems to be more than inching its way to global recognition, as indicated by its trade figures in July 2008. The Ministry of Commerce has declared the exports for the month in the country to have increased by 44 percent to $17 billion and imports by 55 percent to $18 billion.

Thailand has been making constant efforts to set itself on the global platform of gemstone and gemstone jewellery. It has ventured into trading in new markets, which has earned an increase of 31 percent.

The Thai gem and jewellery industry noted 197 percent increase in exports and pre-formed gold exports increased by 1,000 percent. The government attributes this increase in export value due to the rise in prices.
