“A masterful artisan, Elsa was responsible for a revolution in the world of jewellery design. Her collections of organic, sensual forms have inspired generations. Elsa’s relationship with style and the natural world was profoundly personal and strongly reflected in her creations,” Tiffany said in a statement.

Peretti’s eponymous foundation said she had always been inspired by nature – a bean, a bone, an apple could be transformed into cufflinks, bracelets, vases or lighters, scorpions and snakes were turned into appealing necklaces and rings, often in silver which was one of her preferred materials.

Peretti herself stated: “There is no new design, because good lines and shapes are timeless,” and indeed her pieces are as modern and wearable today as they ever were, the foundation added.

She believed that taking care of and protecting our planet is a duty of all of humanity. Through her foundation, she was committed to supporting the environment, social welfare, human rights, as well as the preservation of arts and culture.
