Christie's presents La Dolce Vita - a Selection of Jewels from Italy

Christie’s presents Jewels Online – La Dolce Vita (20 January to 3 February), spanning over 75 examples of fine jewels and iconic designs from the most renowned Italian and international jewellery houses.  Works by Bulgari, Buccelati,  Cartier, Tiffany & Co., and Van Cleef & Arpels are all represented alongside the small but charming collection of Franca Valeri, Italy’s first female comedian actress who passed away last summer at the age of 100.

The online sale also offers a selection of 25 watches, incorporating the most reputable brands, with internationally sought-after models such as the Rolex Daytona, Rolex Submariner or vintage Patek Philippe wristwatches.

From Franca Valeri’s collection come a leading jewellery piece, a sapphire Trombino ring made by Bulgari in the 1970s. The Trombino (translated as ‘little trumpet’) is one of Bulgari’s most successful and long-lasting designs. The first model appeared in the early 1930s and was instantly popular because it allowed the gemstone to stand proud. The shank of the Trombino ring was a broad band of pavé-set diamonds graduated to a horizontal line of baguette-cut diamonds. The example in the sale is a cabochon sapphire Trombino ring weighing 11.9 cts, estimated at €6,000-8,000.
