Gem Diamonds receives $8.8 million for 13.3 carat pink diamond

The tender sale that was hosted in Antwerp achieved a record price per carat of approximately $657,000

Gem Diamonds  has sold a 13.33 ct pink diamond that it disocvered at its Letšeng mine in Lesotho last month for $8.8 million. Last year, Gem Diamonds also recovered an exception diamond 910ct Lesotho Legend, which yielded $40 million. 

The miner had a good run last year with profits of upto $46.6 million. The company attributed this to the discovery of large sized diamond, which has gorwn in number over the years. 

Since the acquisition of the mine in 2006, 5 out of 20 large gem quality white diamonds have been unearthed in Lesotho, which makes Gem Diamonds  the largest dollar per carat operation.
