diamond world news service

Two GIA seminars at the Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair 2016 are going to be presented by GIA instructor Panissara Navasamakkarn. The free half-hour seminars will address the history and value factors of pearls. Representatives from GIA will also be available at booth A101 during the show, to answer questions about education programs and laboratory services.

The seminar will include brief presentations that will review pearl formation, the predominant types of pearls found in the market and GIA’s 7 Pearl Value Factors™ (size, shape, color, luster, surface quality, nacre quality and matching) for evaluating pearl quality. There will also be a practical and informative lesson on pearl care and cleaning guidelines.

Navasamakkarn is an instructor at GIA’s campus in Bangkok, and teaches the Graduate Diamonds program as well as Gem Identification and Colored Stone Grading lab classes. Prior to becoming an instructor, she worked as a diamond grader in GIA’s laboratory. Navasamakkarn holds a bachelor’s degree in science (geology) from Chulalongkorn University and is a GIA Graduate Gemologist.
