Lucapa Diamond Co discovered a rare Type IIA D Colour 90.32 carat rough diamond, at its Lulo Diamond Project in Angola, the largest rough diamond recovered by itself and its partners alluvial mining was initiated at the site in January 2015, reports say. A1331.40 ct D colour Type IIA gem was recovered during bulk sampling, the company noted, as per reports.

The recovery of this diamond is part of the additional special stones the company recovered at the Lulo Diamond Project including eight other large stones of 11carat and above, including one of 56.52 carats, others being of 36.61 carats, 29.94 carats, 21.16 carats, 18.71 carats, 17.06 carats and two of 11 carats.

The recovery of exceptional large diamonds totals 31 during the alluvial mining phase and two during bulk sampling, reports add.

As per the company, systematic pitting programmes are in progress to expand Mining Block 8 alluvial diamond field, the source of most of the recoveries. The company was also undertaking pitting to test E259 kimberlite target the closest to the mining block from where the large stones were recovered.
