In the time of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting UK in November this year, Indian-origin British MP Keith Vaz expressed that the Kohinoor diamond be returned to India, reports add. Vaz is the longest serving British MP of Asian descent, reports add. His views followed the speech and comments made by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor at the Oxford Union wherein he called for Britain to pay India reparations for 200 years of ‘brutal colonial rule’ it faced. Vaz also welcomed the endorsement of its message by Prime Minister Modi. He noted that these were real grievances to be taken seriously, and while monetary reparations is complex and potentially fruitless in his opinion, Vaz cited that giving India back its precious belongings including the Kohinoor did not have any excuse of not to. He further cited that he has supported this ‘campaign’ for long, reports say.

Vaz is hopeful of the Indian PM visit to conclude in UK with the positive note of having the diamond returned back to the country, reports add. The Kohinoor diamond was mined in India in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur district area in the mine called Kollur, reports add.
