The City of Jaipur or commonly referred to as the Pink City, has been hosting the Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS) since 2003. The show was created with the intent of giving an impetus to the Gems and Jewellery trade; placing Jaipur on the World Jewellery Map of gems, craftsmanship and jewellery manufacturing. The event organizers held a press metting to inform of the event with convener of the show Shri Vimal Chand Surana briefing the press.

Over the years, the show has increased its scale of hosting exhibitors from across the globe. Beginning with 67 stall in 2003, the show saw 354 exhibitors in 2007 and this year is preparing to hold 357 booths at the Rajmahal Palace.

Every year the show has directed attention to a particular genre of gems and jewellery through the various themes. This year, the theme is Tanzanite to create an awareness among the consumers and the manufactures of the beauty and intrinsic qualities of the stone.

It will focus on the latest designs, new settings of jewellery and trends in traditional heavy gold ornaments to light weight jewellery. White gold ornaments are expected to be in great demand as also ornaments with traditional and oriental look with fancy cut gemstones. Kundan Meena Jewellery is expected to be in great demand again this year.

A unique feature to be introduced for the first time at the forthcoming show is jewellery bidding, with offerings of a wide spectrum of gems and jewellery, at attractive prices. There are 25 exhibition counters being offered at JJS 2008 on first-come-first-basis (product-wise). These counters will be tentatively allotted to the following categories: tanzanite, stone studded jewellery, kundan meena products, loose stones and silver jewellery. The show is in partnership with GIA, DTC, GJEPC, Polygon, DMCC, WFDB, CIBJO, WGC, Platinum Guild, KPMG.

As reported in the press conference, a promotion group has been formed for tanzanite with members incuding M/s Tanzanite Foundation, South Africa, M/s Intercolor Inc, M/s Vaibhav Gems Limited, M/s Sambhav Gems Limited, M/s Kasmia, M/s K.L.Tambi & Co., M/s Indus Jewellery Pvt.ltd, M/s Rare Multicolour Gems Inc. , M/s Sara Jewels, M/s Jewels Emporium, M/s Royal Touch LLC, M/s Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jewellers, M/s Om Royal Jewels Pvt.ltd.
