42nd IGJA honours gems and jewellery industry

The 42nd Indian Gem and Jewellery Awards ceremony presented by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) at the Ballroom, Jaipur Exhibition & Convention Centre (JECC), RIICO Industrial Area, Sitapura, Jaipur witnessed the who’s who of the gem and jewellery industry coming together under one roof. 

Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India was the Chief Guest for the ceremony, presiding guest was Rajpal Singh Shekhawat, Minister, UDH, Government of Rajasthan. Other dignitaries present for the ceremony included Praveenshankar Pandya, Chairman GJEPC; Russell Mehta, Vice Chairman GJEPC; Kirit Bhansali, Convener Awards; Nirupa Bhatt, Managing Director, GIA India & Middle East; Pramod Agarwal, Regional Chairman, GJEPC; Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director, GJEPC and  Ramcharan Bohra, MP, Jaipur.

Praveenshankar Pandya, Chairman, GJEPC presented the welcome speech in which he profusely thanked the dignitaries and all the members of the audience for their presence. He also stated, “Our gems and jewellery industry is the classic example of ‘Make in India’. If we get slightly more support from the government of India then this industry would grow manifolds.” Further he demanded the government to make policies that would help ease of business and the minister to convince the FM to support the trade.

“Excise duty is not an element of pressurising any industry, it is the element to keeping the economy in check by eliminating black money. I think for gem and jewellery industry, Excise is not a tax matter. If excise officials are troubling the jewellers then we assure that we can help them. I have heard that how excise officials harass the jewellers. But this cannot be consider as an excuse to rollback excise,” said Piyush Goyal.

The Ballroom at the JECC reverberated with ovations and applauds and most notably amusement as the hosts of the show were none other than gorgeous Soha Ali Khan and extremely amusing and multi-talented Jaaved Jaffery who with their humorous ways made the audience split their sides.

A total of 38 awards were given this year in various categories. Lifetime achievement awards was given to Dilipkumar V Lakhi of Lakhi Group.

After a speech from Nirupa Bhatt, MD, GIA-India & Middle East, the shower of awards continued. The thank you note was presented by Kirit Bhansali, Convener- Awards, GJEPC. The grand evening continued with fervor at the dinner party that was hosted by GJEPC for all the attendees.
