Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) has established a dedicated Lab-Grown Diamond Vertical, creating a separate platform for the sector as trade volumes through the UAE continue to expand.
The move follows record lab-grown diamond trade in the UAE in 2025. According to DMCC, the country traded 76.9 million carats, up 91.5% from the previous year. Trade value increased 7.5% to $1.3 billion.
Lab-grown diamond volumes have more than doubled since 2022, when the UAE recorded trade of 36.8 million carats. Imports and re-exports have increased at broadly similar rates, indicating growth across the country’s overall trade flows.
The new vertical will operate separately from DMCC’s natural diamond and coloured stone activities. It is intended to bring together producers, manufacturers, traders, investors, financial institutions, technology companies and industrial users.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman and chief executive officer, DMCC, said the sector now requires dedicated market infrastructure and a separate economic framework, while continuing to develop alongside the natural diamond trade.
Beyond jewellery, DMCC said lab-grown diamonds are gaining attention for their thermal, optical and semiconductor properties. Potential applications include semiconductors, diamond wafers, quantum technologies, aerospace and precision engineering.
China, India and the US remain key markets in the development of the lab-grown diamond industry. China is a major production and research centre, India has significant CVD manufacturing and processing capacity, while the US is a major technology and consumer market.
DMCC has hosted two lab-grown diamond symposiums, with the next scheduled for 2027. The UAE’s total diamond trade reached a record $41.7 billion in 2025, alongside growth in synthetic and industrial diamond volumes.
