

India’s gross gem and jewellery exports increased 3.14% year-on-year in US dollar terms to USD 2.30 billion in August 2026, compared USD 2.23 billion in August 2025. In rupee terms, exports rose 12.52% to Rs 21,945.87 crore.
The growth was led by studded gold jewellery, with exports rising 51.22% in dollar terms to US$642.85 million. In rupee terms, the category grew 64.96% to Rs 6,137.81 crore. Demand was reported from the US, UAE, Hong Kong, UK and France.
Gold jewellery exports, including plain and studded categories, increased 11.81% in dollar terms to USD 999.83 million. However, plain gold jewellery exports declined 23.90% to USD 356.97 million, with the industry body citing elevated gold prices and limited availability of duty-free gold as factors affecting competitiveness.
Cut and polished diamond exports declined 4.93% in dollar terms to USD 924.51 million. Export volumes, however, increased 3.23%, from 12.94 lakh carats in August 2025 to 13.36 lakh carats in August 2026.
Other categories also recorded mixed performance. Polished lab-grown diamond exports increased 28.45% to US$125.17 million, while platinum jewellery exports rose 29.09% to USD 22.50 million. Coloured gemstone exports increased 34.40% to USD 49.07 million. Silver jewellery exports, in contrast, declined 39.66% to USD 86.68 million.
For April-August 2026, India’s gross gem and jewellery exports stood at USD11.47 billion, up 2.58% in dollar terms and 13.36% in rupee terms year-on-year. Studded gold jewellery exports during the period increased 26.73% to USD 2.88 billion.
